You’ve probably heard the term marine hardware more than once. Most often, however, it’s associated with leisure on a lake rather than its many industrial applications far beyond the maritime world. Today at INOX POLSKA, we’re bringing back some key facts about these exceptional components. What are they made of, what are they used for, and where can you find them? Let’s find out together!
What Is Marine Hardware Made Of?
Marine hardware is typically made of either A2 stainless steel or A4 acid-resistant steel. So, what’s the difference between these two materials?
- Acid-resistant steel (often called “acid-proof” steel) is resistant to acids weaker than sulfuric acid. This exceptional property is achieved through the stabilization of austenite and the addition of alloying elements such as titanium, molybdenum, copper, and manganese.
- A2 stainless steel belongs to the group of low-carbon steel alloys. What does this mean? Thanks to its reduced carbon content, A2 stainless steel offers high resistance to corrosion caused by both acids and alkalis, as well as extreme weather conditions. In addition to marine hardware, A2 stainless steel is also used in the production of threaded rods, blind rivets, screws, and nuts.
