What Does Heat Resistance Mean?
Before focusing on grade 1.4724, it’s worth explaining what heat resistance actually means. In simple terms, heat resistance refers to a material’s ability to withstand oxidation and exposure to high temperatures — typically above 550°C. To determine whether a given steel is heat-resistant, a sample is heated to a specific temperature for 24 hours, then cooled down to 20°C. This process is repeated several times until the oxide scale is removed from the surface. The remaining material is then weighed to determine mass loss. If, after testing, the loss does not exceed 1 g (m² × h), and at 50°C it remains below 2 g (m² × h), the steel can be classified as heat-resistant.

The 1.4724 heat-resistant steel belongs to the group of ferritic chromium steels. Thanks to its high chromium content, this grade offers excellent resistance to oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures, as well as good mechanical strength under heat stress.
