Methods of Joining Stainless Steels

Methods of Joining Stainless Steels:

Welding

  • High strength
  • No possibility of disassembly

Bolted Connections

  • Easy installation on site, allows joining of different materials, can be disassembled
  • May cause crevice corrosion

Brazing

  • Soft and hard soldering, watertight joints (e.g. roofing)

Mechanical Press Fitting

  • Expanding, crimping (press-fitting)
  • Durable pipe connections, leak-tight for liquids and gases
  • Requires specialized tools

Adhesive Bonding

  • Maintains surface finish integrity, even stress distribution and larger load-bearing area, vibration damping
  • No visual inspection possible for bonding area, requires careful surface preparation

Stages and Welding Procedures:

  • Preparation for welding
  • Cutting
  • Positioning
  • Tack welding
  • Main welding
  • Post-weld treatment
  • Quality control

Welding Methods:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding – MMA
  • Tungsten Inert Gas – TIG
  • Metal Inert/Active Gas – MIG / MAG
  • Flux-Cored Arc Welding – FCAW
  • Plasma Arc Welding – PAW
  • Submerged Arc Welding – SAW
  • Laser Beam Welding – LBW
