Methods of Joining Stainless Steels:
Welding
- High strength
- No possibility of disassembly
Bolted Connections
- Easy installation on site, allows joining of different materials, can be disassembled
- May cause crevice corrosion
Brazing
- Soft and hard soldering, watertight joints (e.g. roofing)
Mechanical Press Fitting
- Expanding, crimping (press-fitting)
- Durable pipe connections, leak-tight for liquids and gases
- Requires specialized tools
Adhesive Bonding
- Maintains surface finish integrity, even stress distribution and larger load-bearing area, vibration damping
- No visual inspection possible for bonding area, requires careful surface preparation
Stages and Welding Procedures:
- Preparation for welding
- Cutting
- Positioning
- Tack welding
- Main welding
- Post-weld treatment
- Quality control
Welding Methods:
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding – MMA
- Tungsten Inert Gas – TIG
- Metal Inert/Active Gas – MIG / MAG
- Flux-Cored Arc Welding – FCAW
- Plasma Arc Welding – PAW
- Submerged Arc Welding – SAW
- Laser Beam Welding – LBW
